Thieves steal copper cathodes, abandon truck

SUSPECTED thieves have stolen 32 tonnes of copper cathodes valued at US$350,000 that were being transported from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to Tanzania. The copper belongs to Kikongo Transport Company Limited in Tanzania.
Central Province police commanding officer Chileshe Mukuka said the copper cathodes were being transported on a TATA truck and trailer registration numbers T438DML and T180CNG, and driven by Arnold Melkiory Kimario, a Tanzanian national.
The driver abandoned the truck at Mulilima in Serenje district. Mr Mukuka said in a statement yesterday that the vehicle was found on Saturday around 13:00 hours.
